As I watch America’s favorite past time sport, which has been corrupted with its share of scandals from Pete Rose’s betting to the steroid controversy now. Do you notice the amount of broken bats there are? It seems like every game has at least one incident of a broken bat either reaching the crowd, pitcher, or other infielders. All baseball bats used in MLB are made from either two woods. Ash or Maple. Ash was the premiere wood used for bats but now most bats are made from maple.
The MLB is investigating the broken bat situation and as of 7/2/08 to 9/9/08 over 1,700 broken bats have been collected. They are collecting the bats for analysis. Click Here To View Full Story
We hope no one ends up seriously injured from these bats. Not only do you have to worry about foul balls now you have flying bats.
